So I Married An Anti Fan

Superstar celebrity Hoo Joon (Choi Tae Joon) meets his match in spunky magazine reporter Lee Geun Young (Choi Sooyoung) at the opening ceremony of a new nightclub. After witnessing his rude behavior and accidentally throwing up on him, Geun Young is fired from her job.

Outraged, she assumes that Hoo Joon must be the mastermind behind her dismissal and stages a one-person protest outside his talent management agency. News travels fast in the world of entertainment and she soon gains a notorious reputation as Hoo Joon’s ultimate “anti-fan”.

Capitalizing on this debacle, an opportunistic reality TV producer offers jobless Geun Young a chance to appear on a reality TV show with Hoo Joon. The new show will be based on the concept of a star having to live with his greatest “anti-fan”.

In a tough financial situation and running low on funds, Geun Young reluctantly agrees to participate in this show. Hoo Joon’s cooperation in this endeavor, however, remains to be seen. While initially disgruntled, Hoo Joon’s popularity with the public takes a turn for the worse and he ultimately accepts this offer as well in the hopes of boosting his image and recovering lost popular affection.

The couple set out to make each other’s lives difficult on the TV program. However, sparks fly and they realize that they may be more compatible than they initially thought themselves to be. Is there hope for romance to blossom on such a public stage? After all, they are filming a reality TV show…

“So I Married the Anti-Fan” is based on a 2010 novel of the same name by Kim Eun Jung.

Reviews

  1. The drama started with so much potential. Up until episode 6, it is well paced, had good chemistry between leads, and had a cute plotline. However, as the drama progressed so many story lines were introduced into the drama that either didn’t get picked up to create anything tangible out of it or the storyline fell short of expected. From the start to the end of the drama, I still do not realise the point of the 5th main casted actor (the photographer). He seems so insignificant that I thought he was a cameo. Only to realise he’s one of the mains.

This felt like such a waste of time. There are so many things I want to write in this review, but I can’t even bring myself to waste more than 2 mins on this since I already wasted 3 days binging this drama.

  2. I love the Webtoon that this is based on and have been reading it for quite a while. I had known that there was a show based on it but was putting off watching it because my life was kind of crazy at that time. When I finally sat down to watch it, I was disappointed immediately. The female lead is super adorable, but the actor who plays Who Joon does not live up to my expectations. To be honest, I was expecting a super hot, charismatic hunk and this Who Joon just didn’t give me that. Most of the side characters have annoying personalities and are kind of bad at acting (sorry!). The FL and Joon are too different from what they’re supposed to be as per the webtoon, and Joon’s basically bipolar in the show. There’s too many cliche scenes, I’m not satisfied with their chemistry… I could go on and on. After the end of each episode, I would sit there and think, “What did I just watch?”Don’t watch it unless you’re really into cheesy, half-put-together romantic stuff.
  3. So I Married An Anti-Fan is a rom-com that’s sweet, cheesy and sometimes emotional as well. A simple story of a journalist’s life changing moment when she gets involved with a popular star. The cast were good, especially Choi Soo Young who played here mischievous yet understanding character pretty well. While the character development of the lead pairing was palpable, it did not reach a point where you feel like the supporting cast was not part of the picture at all.

With a breath-taking mix of comedy, romance, friendship, bromance, jealousy, and a lot more, the journey of Geun-young and Hoo Joon in this drama was satisfactory

    My Rating : 7.5/10.
